My talented cousin, Ellen Katcher, did this painting of me from a photo — I was walking with the staff of The Commons in Brattleboro’s wonderful Strolling of the Heifers Parade this June.

The parade, for me, is an exercise in pure joy — thousands of happy people line the streets, many dressed — believe it or not — in cow costumes! The kids are holding black-and-white Holstein-inspired balloons, and they all cheer and wave as we march by.

FullSizeRenderEllen certainly captured that joy, didn’t she?
